The Story Behind the Model
Breaking barriers, one historic flight at a time. Test pilot Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier on October 14, 1947. This remarkable feat was made possible by the Bell X-1, an experimental supersonic aircraft that had been introduced the previous year. It spans only 28 feet (8.5 m) and measures 31 feet (9.4 m) in length. The X-1 was the first of the so-called X-planes, an American series of experimental rocket planes designated for testing of new technologies and often kept secret. Its impact on the future of air and space travel proved immeasurable.

Your Bell X-1 is a Level 2 kit - it is perfect for intermediate and advanced model builders. Parental supervision is suggested. Always study the assembly drawings included in the packaging before beginning. Each part is identified by a part number.Trimming to remove extra plastic and filing to smooth before part assembly is suggested. For better paint and decal adhesion, wash the plastic parts in a mild detergent solution. Rinse and let air dry. Check the fit of each piece before cementing in place. Allow paint to dry thoroughly before handling parts.
